FADO UNBOUND
Immersive · Bare · Intimate.
Fado Unbound is a series of intimate performance experiences rooted in Fado.
Through music, storytelling and hospitality, each gathering brings audience and performer into the same shared space. Some experiences take the form of listening-focused recitals. Others explore different ways of bringing people together around song, story and conversation.
At its heart, Fado Unbound is an invitation to slow down, listen attentively, and share an experience with others. All are built around presence, connection and the simple act of gathering together.
The Experience
Intimate
Small audiences create a sense of closeness between audience, performer and place. Every gathering has its own character, shaped by the people in the room and the setting itself.Attentive
Fado Unbound is built around listening. Without the distractions often found in larger venues, music, stories and silences are given room to breathe.Shared
Whether gathered in a studio, private home, restaurant or another unexpected space, each evening brings people together through music, hospitality and conversation.
Three ways to gather
While every Fado Unbound experience is rooted in music, storytelling, and human connection, each gathering takes a different form. From intimate living room recitals to immersive studio performances and shared-table experiences, every setting offers its own way of encountering Fado.
Recital
Hosted in private homes and living rooms, Recitals are the most intimate Fado Unbound gatherings. A shorter experience centred on song, listening, and the natural voice.
Studio
An immersive Fado Unbound experience hosted in creative spaces and studios. Through music, storytelling, and conversation, each evening explores the songs, stories, and traditions that continue to shape Fado today.
À Mesa
A shared table experience where food, conversation, and Fado become part of the same evening. Guests gather around the table to experience hospitality, storytelling, and song as one continuous experience.
Origins
Fado Unbound began with a persistent suggestion:
"You should let more people hear you sing."
I wasn't convinced. At the time, Fado was my comfort zone. It was where I felt most at home as a singer and storyteller. The idea lingered for months before finding its first expression in a living room in The Hague, where the first Fado Unbound performance took place.
The questions that emerged from that evening continue to shape the programme today, exploring new ways of bringing people together through music, storytelling, hospitality and shared experience. Yet everything traces back to the same simple suggestion:
"You should let more people hear you sing."
